Hi students! The goal for this blog is for you to become familiar with plant and animal adaptations. An adaptation is a trait that helps an organism survive. Below you will find various plants and animals. Choose a plant or animal to research. Write a reply that includes adaptations for this plant or animal. For each adaptation identify it as a behavioral or physical adaptation. Be sure to include what the adaptation is and how it helps the plant or animal to survive and thrive.

Your post must be a minimum of 1 paragraph (5-8 sentences) detailing the adaptations of the organism you choose.

Your post must be written in complete sentences with correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

You must also respond to at least 3 classmate’s posts. When responding to a classmate, you may add additional information to their post, compare what they have written to the adaptations of a different organisms, or ask a question about what they posted.

What are the adaptations of the polar bear?

13 comments:

  1. One of the physical adaptions of the polar bear are their paws. The pads on the paws help provide traction on the ice. Their claws also help them dig through the ice and snow. Another physical adaptation is the fur. The fur helps the polar bear stay warm in the cold air. The fat layers help too! The layers also help them stay warm.(it's kind of like an insulator)The layers also help them stay warm for when they are underwater. Sometimes all this insulation can be bad. Polar Bears tend to get overheated from all the insulation. The ears on a polar bear help it stay warm believe it or not. They help prevent water from entering the ear and freezing the eardrums.(thats why they have small ears) If you have noticed the skin of a polar bear is black. This is to make sure the polar bear has a better heat retention rate.

  2. The Polar Bear lives in a Cold enviroment(Tundra). It's adaptation to survive in the cold, dry tundra is its Thick and wooly fur and much more. Its Fur Keeps the warm packed inside its body so it does not get cold. It has Very Big padded Feet to help it walk across Ice. Their fur also consists of many layers of hair and fur. Polar Bear's Fur and Paws are both Physical Adaptations

  6. Could a polar bear survive in the forest if it had no fur?

  7. Most likely no because the way it's body is built such as the paws for walking on ice and the thing in which there nose closes are things it needs to survive in a specific place or area also in the forest where would a polar bear find it food ( fish, seals )
